Northern Arizona Audubon Society

Photography Workshop with Stephen Bruno – Dennis Tomko

Northern Arizona Audubon Society (NAAS) is a fully accredited chapter within The National Audubon Society. We are based among the scenic red rock canyons of Sedona and the lofty peaks of Flagstaff. Our birding world ranges from the Verde Valley to the Grand Canyon and beyond to the Utah border. We offer member meetings with guest speakers from September to May. Fieldtrips are led by our volunteers year round. Conservation work below the rim is a winter activity, while the pleasant Flagstaff summers encourage outdoor work during June-September.

NAAS has three formalized wildlife preserves all of which have been developed in partnership with various governmental entities and which are actively managed under the direct supervision of appointed NAAS stewards. These three sites are Picture Canyon at Flagstaff, Sedona Wetlandsand Bubbling Ponds Page Springs Fish Hatchery. All of these are easily accessible and public use for education as well as for recreational birding is encouraged.

NAAS participates in many regional events such as the Verde Valley Birding and Nature Festival, the Sedona Hummingbird Festival, the Outdoor Arizona Scitech Festival and the Flagstaff Science in the Park. We maintain a high profile in the Sedona Verde Valley.

NAAS has general meetings each month in Sedona and Flagstaff and these feature various speakers on topics as far reaching as Dragonfly ecology and water issues of the Verde River watershed. We also publish a printed newsletter, the Black hawk Watch and we have a full feature website at

We also offer many guided bird walks in the Sedona Verde Valley and Flagstaff areas. Additionally, NAAS publishes two books to direct you to birding hot spots in Northern Arizona.
