Plein Air Painting Workshops with Michael Chesley Johnson

Educational Opportunity
Michael Chesley Johnson

ADA Accessibility Notes

Participants will need to be comfortable with short hikes from parking areas to painting locations.

Join one of the country's top plein air painters in outdoor painting workshops in Sedona and the Verde Valley! Michael Chesley Johnson has been leading outdoor painting workshops in the area for nearly 10 years. In his Paint Sedona workshops, he'll gladly share his special painting spots with you. Locations include creekside hideaways, red rock vistas, and much more. Come prepared to learn a new way of seeing and to experience some of the Southwest's best scenery.

Workshops run Tuesday-Friday from 9-1. Paint in the morning and then spend the afternoons either touring the area with family and friends or paint more on your own. Each day starts with a critique, short lecture and demonstration followed by student work. Because the workshops are limited to only four participants, you'll get plenty of attention and help at your easel.

A variety of programs are offered, from all-level workshops to advanced workshops and workshops with special topics. Workshops are held October-April. For full details on the program, visit
