Sedona Celebration of National Day of the Cowboy is a FREE community event presented by Sedona Main Street Program and Red Rock Posse on the weekend of the 12th Annual National Day of the Cowboy July 22-23, 2016. Entertainment and activities abound from “high noon” to dusk along SR 89A and SR 179 in the Sedona Main Street District and Uptown Sedona.

Enjoy “a whole lot of cowboy goin’s on”, thanks to business sponsors, donors and activity hosts. Watch gunfights, historical reenactments and whip crackin’ by Red Rock Posse. See world champion Cowboy Action Shooting. Visit and capture a photo with Somewhere In Time Re-enactors, the Arizona Rangers – Verde Valley Company and the Buffalo Soldiers of Arizona - Troop "F" 9th Cavalry, and a variety of western-costumed characters. Try your hand at roping with Roper Paul Pitts, who’ll demonstrate the technique and hand the rope over to you!

Kick up your heels to country and western music and step up with square dancing and country line dancing demonstrations. Listen to cowboy poetry and storytelling, and watch western artist demonstrations plus cowboy crafts and tradesmen at work. Take a chance on winning a western experience with the National Day of the Cowboy raffle. Go on a horse-drawn wagon ride, or maybe even a free ride on a stagecoach. Have hootin’ good fun with good old-fashioned family games and western-themed activities for li’l cowpokes.

All weekend long, come stroll along the sidewalks and plazas to enjoy the festivities. While you’re here, shop the stores and galleries for western goods from fine art and décor to western wear. Dine on a variety of cuisine at myriad restaurants and outdoor cafes with stunning views.

Wear your western finery or cowboy duds or come as you are and join in the spirit. This National Day was proclaimed in recognition of the character and values of the Cowboy, which include honesty, stamina, integrity, courage, compassion, respect, patriotism and a strong work ethic. Integral parts of Sedona’s history include cowboys and ranching, since the 1890's, dozens of Hollywood Western Films made here in Sedona, and Sedona being the founding city of the Cowboy Artists of America right here in Uptown in 1965. Celebrating National Day of the Cowboy in Sedona just makes good horse sense!

Pet Friendly Notes

Uptown Sedona/Sedona Main Street District is pet friendly; please protect four-legged feet from hot sidewalks and pavement this time of year, and be aware there's loud gunfire with mock gunfights goin' on!
